I might have to modify my idea for the 90 day blogging challenge for myself… Right now I’m struggling to keep 9 websites up to date EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! Even just a quick write up takes a good 30 minutes to run through. So what I think I’m going to do is keep my personal blog updated every day, keep my watches blog updated every day (since the two of them are syndicated better than any of my other sites) and then update one of the other 7 sites each day so they get updated once a week. I think this change will increase the quality of my blog posts, and help me to keep my sanity ;-) For now I’m going to try and keep up with all 9 blogs every day for at least a full week, and that will give me some time to sleep on the idea and decide whether or not it’s worth it. 9 blog updates a day could pose a huge benefit to my sites… but it might be detrimental if I cannot keep up with such a rigorous schedule.

As a stay at home father, and husband finding the energy to update 9 blogs every day doesn’t come easily! Besides trying to keep up with a rambunctious 2 year old, my wife never got her drivers license, which means driving her to work, and picking her up most days… which interferes with sleeping schedules. Since our son generally sleeps in the car, thats a minimum of 2 hours of sleep that he gets, and I do not. Plus, driving generally wakes me up getting a little bit of adrenaline flowing, so I can’t go back to sleep right after, and by the time I could go to sleep our son is generally awake! I’ve always been against performance enhancing drugs, but have accepted their usefulness as of late! Especially caffeine where Folgers Cappuccino, Mocha Chocolate Coffee Beverage Mix, 16-Ounces Canisters (Pack of 6) (with Amazon’s auto-ship for extra savings) has become a life saver! I also extensively take Organic Life Vitamins which are specifically formulated for that extra burst of energy!

The combination of organic liquid vitamins, and caffeine allow me to keep up with a crazy 2 year old boy, a demanding wife who needs to be driven to and picked up from work most days, and a rigorous blogging schedule where I update at least 9 websites a day!!! It’s like working two full time jobs, and believe me I would not make it through my day without my magic juice ;-)

One of the most important techniques to learn in blogging is to schedule your posts. This may seem funny at first, but it really will help you to keep a good daily blogging schedule. Most blogging services allow you to do it, and it’s pretty simple. With WordPress you look to the right at the top under “publish” somewhere in that box it will say “publish now” and have an “edit” link beside that. When you click edit you can choose a date and time to have your article published! Simple as that. The value of this feature is immense! I suggest you stick with a 30 day blogging schedule where you are actually writing every day, it takes 30 days to form a new habit and you need that habit of writing every day! After a while you can start saving your posts, you don’t necessarily have to post every day, maybe just once a week with a very good thought out post. That post may take you weeks, or just several days to write though! When you start picking up readers you can say to yourself “every Wednesday I will release a new story” well maybe one week you write 3 amazing posts! Fight the urge to send them out when you write them and let each one hit on Wednesday, schedule it to do so. Now if you run into writers block you’ll be ahead of the game and won’t have to let that choking throw your blog off! Another great reason for doing this is so that you can have vacation time! Something that isn’t too common for us work from home types ;-) Remember many of your readers have jobs, and families to take care of, so once a week is generally about all that they will get to of your posts, just make it good! Write a post that they want to share with their friends, then their friends want to share it with their friends… this is what we in the biz call “going viral” it is one of the most coveted situations in blogging… Going viral can bring in hundreds of dollars in a single day (it can also crash your server bringing us back to that reliable web hosting I was talking about in another post) it can also bring in hundreds or possibly thousands of subscribers! This is where you want to be. So remember once you have your daily writing schedule set as a habit, feel free to publish only once a week, use those times when the creativity is flowing to pound out as much as you can, but only release what you need to it will keep the subscribers, and cash flowing evenly ;-)

Okay, this is for anyone looking to start up an online business. Who said that starting a business had to be hard? The 90 day blogging challenge won’t win you any awards for most productive sites of the year… but it may just get you rolling on your path to success. There are a few things that the blogging challenge teaches, for one consistency, the other you learn the dynamics of running a website and will get a lot of experience in that short time.

So what is the 90 day blogging challenge? Well very simply put it is to add at least one entry to your blog every day for 30 days. Doesn’t matter what your business is, if you run an online shop, if you’re reviewing products, no matter what you are doing the 30 day challenge will benefit you.

One of the first lessons you will learn from the blogging challenge (if you stick with it) is that your website does not work when you’re not working. Because of the dynamic nature of the internet all search engines keep track of how often your site is updated, based on that they may move you up or down in the search engine results. Someone who doesn’t update very often isn’t going to get a lot of attention from the big search engines. When they scan your site and see the same information that they saw yesterday when they scanned your site, they don’t scan your site again for about a week… if the same information is STILL there… well… you may as well forget trying to get them to update your information. Blogging is particularly good for this because when you update it sends out a “ping” to other websites so that they know you’ve updated. Websites in your same category may like what you said and link to you… this will increase the number of scans done by the search engines.

As you can imagine this process isn’t going to be instant. The big search engines need to see consistent changes on your site before they start scanning and updating your sites listings every day… or even hour. And in this we learn something else… patience. While some things on the internet are instant others take time. Making money online is one of those things that is going to take time! You have a minimum of 30 days, often as much as 90 days before you start seeing profits from your online endeavors… because of this you have to stay consistent for at least 3 months before you can make a judgment on whether or not working online is for you. If you don’t like the idea of waiting 3 months for a paycheck… this may not be your field. At first it was very hard for me to keep motivated in this environment… You’d work your BUTT off for 2-3 weeks straight, every day, 8 hours a day like a normal job… But you would see no results from it… then after 2 months you’d start having money flood in! So you would start working hard again only to watch your money dwindle as you worked… of course this is not motivating, so it can be easy to let your work slip. This is why you must keep at it for 90 days straight through before making up your mind.

So here is to the beginning of a 90 day challenge on EasySimpleSideMoney! I’ve got a few other blogs that have been running this kind of challenge, but now it is time to get this one working :-D The combined power of those other sites will eventually breath life into this site, hopefully faster than 90 days, but the goal is to keep at it for that long and see where it gets us.

I’ll be working with Jordan on this goal, so it should be easy as pie to keep up with.
